About 21 University

University Declaration

You either know what you are talking about, or you don’t.

21 University is a no cost, no degree, completely unaccredited university dedicated to education through the presentation of select lectures from The 21 Convention.

We don’t believe anyone should have to compromise for a low quality, hyper expensive education.

And at 21 University, you don’t.

About the curriculum.

Our curriculum is divided into four primary categories, with numerous sub-categories.

Those primary categories are :

  • Philosophy
  • Culture
  • Health
  • Electives

The first three are used in specific and unconventional ways at this university to provide a framework for our curriculum, and as such, will benefit from further elaboration, which is provided as follows.

From the Ayn Rand Lexicon on philosophy (source) :

Philosophy studies the fundamental nature of existence, of man, and of man’s relationship to existence.

The task of philosophy is to provide man with a comprehensive view of life. This view serves as a base, a frame of reference, for all his actions, mental or physical, psychological or existential.

Philosophy is a necessity for a rational being: philosophy is the foundation of science, the organizer of man’s mind, the integrator of his knowledge, the programmer of his subconscious, the selector of his values.

As a course category at 21 University, philosophy acts as an umbrella for various branches of philosophy, including but not limited to : ethics, politics, knowledge, law, and economics.

From the Wikipedia entry on culture (source) :

Culture (Latin: cultura, lit. “cultivation”[1]) is a modern concept based on a term first used in classical antiquity by the Roman orator Cicero: “cultura animi” (cultivation of the soul). This non-agricultural use of the term “culture” re-appeared in modern Europe in the 17th century referring to the betterment or refinement of individuals, especially through education.

Culture is used in this classical sense at 21 University, specifically, to mean cultivation of the soul (of self), with a focus on education as produced by The 21 Convention.

Given the nature of the above statement, it is important to clarify that this use of culture at 21 University is not an endorsement of “the soul” in a mystical or supernatural sense, but is instead an endorsement of the existence of “the soul” in a spiritual or — even more precisely - conceptual sense. It follows at this university that the maintenance, care, and cultivation of self (of the soul) is a worthy, and admirable goal.

21 University is designed to be a resource center of the highest quality for the self-directed pursuit of this goal.

As a course category at 21 University, culture acts as a conceptual umbrella for dating, relationships, social skills, sexuality, and male studies.

Its use here is open to further expansion for additional course subjects.

From Body by Science, written by Doug McGuff M.D. and John Little, on the definition of health (source)

We were surprised to discover that the terms health and fitness — while bandied about liberally within the fields of medicine, health care, and physical training — have never been given a universally agreed-upon definition …

… given the lack of a working definition from the fitness and medical worlds, we cautiously offer the following :

Health: A physiological state in which there is an absence of disease or pathology and that maintains the necessary biologic balance between the catabolic and anabolic states.

Given the context this passage provides, our use of health as a primary course category at 21 University is not necessarily unconventional, as much as it is an active reach for an objective definition of the term; and above even this, that one is possible.

As a course category at 21 University, health acts as a conceptual umbrella for all lectures pertaining to human health, exercise, nutrition, biomechanics, and derivative technology.

About 21

The root of “21″ in 21 University comes from The 21 Convention : A Panorama Event for Life on Earth as a Man. And the root of the number 21 in The 21 Convention comes from it’s original name, the Under 21 Convention; itself a reference to the initial age focus of the conference at its founding.

Which was, ironically, for individuals attending university or college.

About the meaning of university

The word university is typically associated with a degree granting institution of higher education. However this is not a requirement or mandate in most countries; it is a common association and end result of attending a university, that has become common in most universities around the world today.

The title “21 University” is instead based on the meaning of university as it is derived from the Latin: universitas magistrorum et scholarium, approximately meaning “community of teachers and scholars”.

About “Never Compromise”

The phrase “never compromise” seen on 21 University refers to two separate ideas. For the first, see our university declaration at the top of this web page.

The second is in anti-reference to the meaning of compromise as it is commonly used today, which is not a tribute to the concept of hard work in the aim of reaching a difficult agreement, but is instead a destructive, guilt-associating substitution for the surrender of one’s values and convictions; either partially or to the full extent.

This hijacking of the concept glorifies the abandonment of the mind in dealing with the challenges of human life; ranging from daily choices, to life changing events.

Today, to “compromise”, in essence, is to give up.

And giving up on one’s mind, one’s life, and one’s own values is entirely rejected at this university in all forms.

About The 21 Convention

The 21 Convention is the world’s first “panorama event for life on earth as a man”. Its formation began in July of 2006 by a then 17 year old Anthony Dream Johnson, with the first conference being held in July of 2007, Orlando Florida, USA.

The convention has gone on to span the globe, with ten primary live events having been held in Florida, Texas, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Australia — with more on the way. Anthony Dream Johnson is the sole founder and current CEO of The 21 Convention LLC, and architect of The 21 Convention live events.

The formal title of “The 21 Convention” was an adoption of “the Under 21 Convention”, taken in early 2009.

Lectures from The 21 Convention are viewed annually by millions of people from around the world.

The 21 Convention is designed primarily for men. Women are welcome at the live events and consistently attend. Most courses provided by 21 University are subsequently tailored for men. Women are welcome to learn from any and all courses provided by this university.
